What I love about our Criminal Justice system, and many may not realize this, is that it speaks volumes about our culture. A number of people are just now opening their eyes and becoming aware of the discrimination against immigrants present in this wonderful red, white, and blue nation of ours. To me, this is extremely frustrating considering that this very same discrimination has been evident throughout history, and our Criminal Justice system tends to paint a picture of this quite vividly. However, most are not involved in the system in any way, shape, or form, and so it is easy to turn a blind eye to the issues at hand; because they are not being directly effected, so who cares, right?…until one day that issue is put into a different context, one in which you might find applicable to yourself, and all of a sudden there is an uproar…after the roots of the issue have already gone so problematically deep. It is time to become more aware of our surroundings…

Drug laws are perhaps the greatest display of discrimination in our Criminal Justice system, which, of note, is very much culturally embedded.

Drug laws have been designed to target any immigrant group seen as a threat to the established economic order. Below is a video on the history of drug laws in America.
